Reckless Love and a Runaway Bunny

Maybe this is just for me. But maybe, just maybe, someone else needs to hear this, too. Cory Asbury wrote an amazing song called, "Reckless Love." We were singing it in church yesterday. It gives me all the feels every single time. Each line cuts to the core of my heart, my identity. How amazing that He would leave the 99 just for little old, pitiful, insignificant, unimportant, mess of a me! But He did. And He does. Every. Single. Day.

As I was singing along, the bridge, "There's no shadow You won't light up, mountain You won't climb up, coming after me," hit me in a new way. And maybe it's because I'm a parent and read kiddie books to my littles. But as I started thinking about God climbing any mountain in pursuit of me, I was struck by the parallel to Margaret Wise Brown's classic, The Runaway Bunny. A little bunny tells his mother he is running away. She tells him matter-of-factly that she will pursue him to the ends of the earth to keep him safe and bring him home.

Being a little bunny, he devises all sorts of ways to escape his mother. He will become a fish, a rock on a mountain, a sailboat and more. Each way he intends to run away, his mother finds a counter to pursue him: a fisherman, a mountain climber, the wind. He at last realizes there is literally nothing she won't do to...he resigns himself at last, "Shucks, I might just as well stay where I am and be your little bunny."

I see in myself that little bunny. Maybe not always deliberately running away. But often moving in a direction not in God's beautifully designed "Best" for my life. (He can and is willing to redeem us all, no matter how far we roam!) But God, oh God, He is reckless in His pursuit! He will abandon His home, His Heaven, His throne, and even leave the rest of His flock to pursue and rescue the lost lambs who cry out to Him. His love is overwhelming. And there is literally nothing He won't, nothing He didn't, do for us.

So if you feel unloved...if you feel unworthy...if you feel too far... you're not. You're never too far to reach. You're never too "bad" to save. You can't earn it anyways...so how can you be unworthy? You are worthy everything to Him.

Read the book. Listen to the song. Read the lyrics. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sc6SSHuZvQE

If you need to talk, message me, call me, text me...anything. I'm here. God loves you in an unconditional, holding nothing back, do anything for you kind of way. I love you. God and me, we're here... come home, Runaway.
